Heart Disease

Heart Disease is the top cause of death

Heart disease is now so common it claims the ultimate “prize” as the top cause of death with 1 in 3 adults dying of a cardiovascular event.

Over recent years, the correlation between stiffening of the large arteries in the body and cardiovascular events such as strokes and heart attacks has reached a crescendo with research groups across the globe seeking to discover effective methods of identifying the onset of this disease.

The cause of this modern disease is often the build up of fat, cholesterol, calcium and other substances found in the blood which manifest as plaque on the inner walls of the arteries. This plaque is known as atherosclerosis.

This can lead to complications if left untreated but, with early screening, that day can be significantly postponed or even eliminated.

Aging

For years, the medical community has accepted that many of the problems associated with aging are because blood flow becomes less efficient as we age. Blood delivers vital nutrients and oxygen to our muscle tissue, our skin and all other organs, and through a combination of lifestyle and poor diet, our arteries stiffen and restrict the amount of blood delivered. The effects of ageing can be plainly seen.

We cannot stop ourselves getting older but we can monitor the symptoms and problems associated with aging. More importantly, we can act to manage the adverse affects of this aging process.

Arterial stiffness is caused by the build up of plaque (atherosclerosis) on the arterial wall. CardioTrace has the ability to highlight early stages of atherosclerosis and has emerged as one of the most exciting developments in this field.

Why Wait?

Bodyworks have designed a Heart Health Check-Up or cardiovascular risk assessment in line with and exceeding UK recommendations. We will measure your cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels and, importantly, check your overall arterial health using CardioTrace. We can also answer any questions you may have about how to reduce your risk factors and improve heart health.

The check-up appointment takes 20 minutes and results are available immediately. Our team are available to answer any questions you may have.

CardioTrace

CardioTrace is a non invasive test to determine heart health

Through research and analysis of the pressure and volume waveforms that your pulse generates throughout your body, it is possible to make comparisons against a database of 10,000 individuals considered "of normal healthy condition".

The speed at which the pulse travels along the arterial tree is directly related to arterial stiffness / elasticity. With its infra-red sensor, CardioTrace measures this pulse waveform thus indicating arterial stiffness and from this, your vascular biological age can be determined.

CardioTrace is a world leader in Pulse Wave Technology. It is a painless, non invasive procedure, a sensor simply being clipped to your finger and infrared light passed through it. CardioTrace scans, collects and analyses data from the sensor and from this information, can determine the stiffness of your arteries.

Central Aortic Systolic Pressure (CASP) is one of the most powerful early predictors of cardiovascular risk. Central aortic vascular compliance, or lack of it, is a key indicator of vascular health status. You may only be 40 but if your arterial health is that of an average 70 year old due to premature arterial stiffness, you can take action now to improve the situation and avoid a catastrophe. CardioTrace can show every adult their own personal level of health and wellness.

CardioTrace is fully FDA approved and European licensed with many published and peer reviewed papers adopting use of this technology.

CardioTrace does not diagnose any medical condition, it simply compares readings from samples of healthy individuals of the same sex, age and other parameters and allows the patient make their own judgments.
