Estelle Mitchell is widely recognised on the Costa del Sol as one of Spain’s leading physiotherapists. Qualifying as a Chartered Physiotherapist in January 1978 having studied and trained with the RAF, Estelle is putting her wide and extensive experience to full use at Bodyworks Health Clinic.

Estelle is a specialist in her own right meaning that there is no need to see your doctor before making an appointment. Of course, being medically trained, Estelle is more than happy and indeed encourages working closely with your General Practitioner or other health care professional.

She will provide simple, honest and accurate advice and the best of treatment to make life that much easier and more pleasant.

What is Physiotherapy?

The aim of a Chartered Physiotherapist is to relieve or stop pain, restore movement and to return the body to its natural state.

Physiotherapy is a complex profession treating a wide variety of problems ranging from a simple injury to rehabilitation after a fracture or surgery, long standing joint disease, gynaecological problems to chest and neurological conditions. Chartered Physiotherapists are the detectives of the medical profession and specialists in finding and thus treating the underlying problem therefore avoiding a recurrence.

Physiotherapy is the orthodox solution to a condition and is not just for a “quick fix” - if we paint or paper over damp, it will just come back! Get to the cause of the problem.

What does Treatment involve?

The most important part of any treatment is the diagnosis. Once we clearly understand what the problem is and what is causing it then we can find the most appropriate solution. Therefore the first step of any treatment program is a full and detailed clinical assessment by Estelle to understand the root cause of the problem. Estelle uses not only clinical assessment techniques but also video analysis and thermal imaging to get a clearer idea and, most importantly, to make sure that you, the patient, understand your diagnosis and what is happening in your body.

Treatments often entail “hands-on” manual techniques i.e. soft tissue and joint mobilisations. Estelle has the most up-to-date electrotherapy equipment available including ultrasound, interferential and uniquely to the Costa del Sol, an ultra safe Cryotherapy unit (deep cold). Orthotics may often be a solution and Estelle has a computerised gait and pressure analysis system that is currently unique to mainland Europe. Also unique to Spain is probably the most exciting medical developments this decade, technology that allows the body to re-grow cartilage and at a different frequency, to re-grow bone - ideal for osteoporosis sufferers.

If a management plan is all that is required, you will be taught exercises and of course the home management tips and tricks to make life easier and more comfortable. Medication advice can be given and importantly, you will know what help your doctor or a surgeon can offer.
