Does your BodyWork? Estelle Mitchell's Physiotherapy Clinic

Estelle Mitchell

A Potted History

The RAF
I trained with the Royal Air Force (as a WRAF) and qualified in January 1978!
It was a brilliant way to train - unbeatable experience and a fantastic opportunity.
As well as the in-depth physio training that was provided, I had to do all the usual that the forces insist on i.e. square bashing, shoe "spit and polish", cleaning etc. etc.! The physio training was invaluable and great fun with no expense being spared in getting fit boys fit again! As well as ALL aspects of physiotherapy, training also included time spent at Stoke Mandeville hospital and the RAF rehabilitation units and laterally I was the burns and plastic surgery specialist physiotherapist.

After the RAF
On leaving the RAF, I did a wonderful spell with the UK National Health Service, a totally different organisation from the RAF (!) but very valuable none the less.
Posts held included:
Lincolnshire
working at the Woodhall Spa rheumatology clinic in the hydrotherapy pool with lots of plaster of paris splinting experience.
Nottinghamshire
a senior physiotherapist position at Newark General Hospital Outpatient Department.
Suffolk
A private physio clinic in Ipswich specialising in orthopaedics and rheumatology
Worked at Shrubland Hall Health Farm
Started "Kids Physicals" exercises for 3 - 5 year olds (a forerunner to "Tumble Tots"!)
Remedial exercises for the elderly working for the Suffolk County Council
Croydon
Senior physiotherapist for the Purley Hospital outpatient department
Senior physiotherapist for the community trust, pioneering outpatient facilities in GP surgeries.

Jersey
After moving to Jersey Channel Islands, I decided to set up my own physiotherapy practice and had eight wonderful years there. I am glad to say that during that time I met many, many lovely patients and was very pleased and proud to have had the support of many of the doctors and consultants, some becoming good friends. I enjoyed my work and will left taking many memories and much valuable experience with me.

The Future
I hope that I can continue to be able to see and treat my friends and patients both old and new. However and more importantly, I hope that all patients I treat go on to live healthy, mobile and more comfortable lives.
