Estelle Mitchell's Bodyworks Physiotherapy Clinic

Specialist Knee Clinic

Initial Assessment

Chartered Society of Physiotherapists Health Professions Council

This will be conducted by a fully qualified English Chartered Physiotherapist who is both registered with the UK Health Professions Council (HPC) and the Spanish national and local authorities.

Non-specific knee pain, i.e. where there has been no obvious injury, is a common problem that many people struggle with. At the initial appointment a full history will be taken and a full assessment conducted.

Using the assessment tools and technology available at Bodyworks, and the knowledge and experience of your Chartered Physiotherapist, we will create the best possible treatment plan for you and your knee.

KneehabTM

Kneehab unit on right knee

After an injury, the muscles around the knee decrease in size and strength and whilst this loss can complicate recovery, it is correctable.

The KneehabTM unit simplifies the process by utilising innovative and clinically proven technology. By emitting safe electrical currents to stimulate muscle activity, KneehabTM aids muscle growth and importantly, the “mind / muscle” connection.o

Magnetic Resonance

Knee being treated using MRT

Magnetic Resonance Therapy (MRT) was developed by a team of German scientists, researchers and medical specialists following patients’ unexplained improvement after Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans. Further research showed that at a specific frequency, the energy that the MRI scanner usually “reads”, can be passed on to adjacent atoms. Based upon these principles, the particular frequency of cartilage was identified allowing the magnetic resonance energy to be passed directly to the cartilage cells, stimulating cellular change and forcing these cartilage cells into re-growth.

A number of scientific, double blind, placebo controlled and randomised tests, documented research and clinical trials on over 13,000 patients have shown that this technology can naturally stimulate the chondrocyte cells aiding in the re-growth of cartilage. To date, over 85,000 patients have been helped.

At last, a drug and surgery free alternative for patients with damaged cartilage and joint pain.

EliteSeat ®

Elite Seat in use

For your knee to function correctly, you need to be able to completely straighten your leg. This movement is called extension and is an important aspect of how we walk. It is one of the first things that is lost when the knee is injured.

Here at Bodyworks, we incorporate the Elite Seat® into your treatment in the form of 10 minute stretches, ideally daily. The Elite Seat® is used until both knees have an equal amount of extension. The amount of time this takes varies depending of the severity of the initial loss of extension.

The unit is designed to allow you to take up a comfortable position and independently increase the amount of stretch applied, progressing at your own speed. The reclining position avoids difficulties with hamstring tightness or spasms.

The Elite Seat® design distributes force equally throughout the affected leg to produce the best possible stretch.

It can be used to combat the loss of extension associated with:

  • Arthritic and deconditioned knee joints
  • Arthrofibrosis
  • Cruciate ligament injuries
  • After a joint replacement.

Gait Analysis & Orthotics

Gait and pressure analysis at Bodyworks

It is surprising how much pain originates at the foot. Feet are culpable for conditions such as bunions, corns, tendonitis, and also knee, hip and back problems. Orthotics (specialised, discreet shoe insoles) are an efficient tool in correcting biomechanics to combat these complaints.

Here at Bodyworks we employ three methods to analyse how you walk (your gait). The first is to be checked by a Chartered Physiotherapist who will conduct an assessment of your biomechanics.

To help further in getting to the root cause of your problem, we can video you whilst walking on a treadmill. The video will then be played back and treatment options explained.

With specialised software and harnessing the power of the 21st century computer, it is now possible to measure every aspect of foot posture and your gait. Using the information gathered by the computer, a detailed report on how you walk will be generated which can be used to create a unique, slim-line, comfortable and multi-shoe compatible orthotic. Sport specific orthotics can also be produced as can those for patients who need extra care such as the diabetic or arthritic sufferer.

Ongoing Support

Throughout your treatment, qualified staff will be on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have. They will also check that any prescribed exercises are being carried out correctly and progress them as required.

We also have the ability to arrange X-rays, MRI scans or appointments with consultants if required.

If there is something we can’t help with, we will probably know someone who can, just ask!
