Lots is the short answer!
Your lymphatic system is your body’s drainage system, it takes all the used up hormones and waste products away from your cells and helps them leave the body (mostly via your kidneys).
If these waste products build up they can cause all kinds of issues; pain and swelling as well as systems not working effectively. By reducing the inflammation and swelling and helping the waste to leave your body, you feel more comfortable and have less symptoms.
This means lymphatic drainage can help with a wide range of conditions including:
At Bodyworks we offer “Electro” Lymphatic Drainage as well as more traditional, manual techniques.
This allows us to work more deeply than traditional, manual practitioners, into places behind bones, like the chest, and also deeper into the digestive system and internal organs.
The treatment is painless (you might feel a gentle warmth) and is non-invasive, we make gentle skin contact and that’s it!
The “Electro” Lymphatic Drainage machine which we use has a hand held baton which makes gentle contact with the skin. This baton then conducts high-frequency, negatively charged electrical pulses into your lymphatic system. These pulses then break up the (positively charged) blockages in the lymphatic system and stimulate the small muscle contractions that move the waste through the lymphatic system.
The waste is carried through to the kidneys where you simply pee it out. So you will need to drink lots of water to keep the kidneys flushed.
In your first consultation we will take a full and detailed medical history to understand your individual concerns and what you are hoping to achieve with therapy.
One of the greatest benefits of the “Electro” Lymphatic Drainage system that we use is the feedback the machine provides. This allows us to identify the locations of the blockages and monitor how you are responding to treatment.
This also means we can give you a rough idea of how many treatment sessions you might need.
In very general terms the majority of people tend to improve significantly with 4 treatments, but this varies hugely! For some conditions just 1 session might make all the difference (especially for recent injuries), but for more complicated conditions you might need a few more or a regular top up. All of this will be explained and discussed during your initial session so you understand your individual needs.
During the treatment itself you might feel a little tingling or possible a warm feeling.
After the 1st treatment you might feel very tired and thirsty. We strongly recommend drinking lots of water after treatment and avoiding alcohol (you might get a nasty hangover!) the evening after treatment.
Subsequent treatments should leave you feeling more energetic with reduced bloating, swelling and pain. And, of course, a significant reduction in your original symptoms!
Each session is 45 minutes long. How many sessions required will depend on the condition being treated and what you would like to achieve.
Your therapist will discuss this during the first treatment.
