Introducing Dr Jyri Lepisto, Orthopaedic Consultant

As most people who know me professionally know, I view surgery as the last resort, something to be avoided where possible. However I would hope that I’m also known for my honesty and the fact that I want to help my patients get better as quickly and effectively as possible.

And sometimes surgery is the best option.

So I am pleased to welcome Dr Jyri Lepistö, Orthopaedic Consultant to Bodyworks.

Not your typical surgeon

As you would expect Dr Lepistö is highly qualified with many years of experience. But he is also a little different to many of the surgeons you may have met. As well as cutting edge surgery Dr Lepistö uses an approach from the USA called Functional Medicine, which means that I know he will be just as honest and view surgery as the last resort in the same way I do.

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine was developed in the USA and it is a philosophy and outlook that addresses the underlying causes of disease, looking for the root problems as well as focusing on the relationship between patient and doctor.

Focuses on the whole person – as we’ve said time and again you cannot treat a knee in isolation – you must also include and assess the joints connected to it, the ankle, hip, lower back and the other leg! Otherwise you might simply be treating the symptom without addressing the real problem.

More than a scan – while Dr Lepistö appreciates, and can arrange if required, X-rays and MRI scans, he will also assess YOU, the real live human standing in front of him. Critical to understanding the core issues.

Relationship between Doctor and Patient – during your consultation with Dr Lepistö you will have his undivided attention for as long as you need. In fact, it is so important to him that he focuses solely on you that he has his practice nurse sit in to take notes.

Before and after surgery – a common complaint is that people see a surgeon, are immediately scheduled for surgery and then . . . . no support after surgery. Dr Lepistö takes a different view. Surgery is hard on the body, and sometimes there are things we can do prior to surgery to get the best outcome. And rehabilitation and support afterwards are critical to getting the best recovery.

Estelle adds that by working as a team, combining her physiotherapy knowledge and Dr Lepistö’s surgical skill, Bodyworks will ensure that you get the best outcome from surgery by supporting you before AND afterwards.

Appointments with Dr Lepistö

Please note that Dr Lepistö speaks English, Finnish and Swedish but translators can be arranged to make sure your consultation is as comfortable and thorough as possible.

I have been attending a knee specialist in Dublin with regard to a torn cartilage sustained during a bout of jogging last August. Surgery is planned for the 13th May. I would be delighted to meet Dr Lepistö and listen to his suggestions. Would it be at all possible to get an appointment today (Tueaday) or tomorrow (Wednesday) as I leave early on Thursday morning.
    Many thanks.
    Kind regards
